Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What is Defender Pro QuickScan?
A1: Defender Pro QuickScan is an online scanning tool that quickly detects malware running on a PC.
Q2: How to perform a QuickScan?
A2: To launch a QuickScan you just need to visit http://quickscan.Defender-Pro.com and simply click 'the Scan now' button. This will begin the scanning process.
Q3: How is QuickScan different from other online scanners?
A3: The key difference is speed. Unlike most other online scanners, that utilize legacy on-demand scanning technology and required large downloads, QuickScan takes full advantage of "in-the-cloud" scanning technology. By doing so, QuickScan
can produce results faster than other scanners, which can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. In addition, there is no need for annoying virus signature updates, as the entire virus database and the scanning engines are hosted on our remote servers.
Q4: Why does the report show Quickscan skipping files?
A4: To help ensure quick results and to help optimize the hashing and communication process, QuickScan skips several types of files that are deemed harmless.
Q5: Why did QuickScan not detect the infected files that other antivirus solutions found?
A5: QuickScan only detects viruses that are active in your PC’s memory or present in the files that are run at your system’s startup. Inactive virus bodies are not scanned for and therefore not detected. To run a full system scan you can
use one of the Defender Pro security solutions, which can be found at http://defender-pro.com/products.
Q6: Will QuickScan delete files, share personal and private data to unknown third parties or otherwise cause me or my computer harm?
A6: No. Quickscan does not modify or delete any file on your system and only uploads executable files for checking (i.e. NO documents or other data files are sent). The upside to that is you're safe. The downside is that Quickscan provides no virus removal
Q7: So QuickScan says I am infected, what do I do now?
A7: QuickScan is simply the first step in detecting and fixing your infected PC. If QuickScan had detected an infection you should either contact our support team or download an anti-virus program, such as Defender Pro, which includes full cleaning capabilities,
to help conduct a full system scan.
Q8: What browsers are supported?
A8: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer.
Q9: Please help - QuickScan and/or Firefox/Chrome/IE crashed. What happened?
A9: On occasion, a program bug slips through our QA process and makes it to the live version of QuickScan. If this is the case, the best course of action is to ensure that you have the very latest version installed. Follow the instructions below to check
your QuickScan version:
In Firefox click Tools -> Addons and click the "Find Updates" button in the lower right section of the addon window.
In Chrome click Settings -> Extensions and in the extensions window push the "Update extensions now" button. Alternatively, in chrome you can type chrome://extensions in the address bar to reach that area.
The Internet Explorer component will be automatically updated once you access the QuickScan website).
If this does not seem to solve your problem, please contact us at
email@example.com and we will try to find a solution for you as quickly as we can.
If the problem persists, you are encouraged to contact us at quickscan at Defender Pro dot com and we'll promptly get back to you and try to figure out what's wrong.
Q10: How do I uninstall QuickScan from my Browser?
A10: Depending on how you installed QuickScan from your Browser, this should be a fairly simple process. If you dropped the npqscan.dll file in the plugins folder of your web browser, you just need to simply remove the file and restart your browser.
Here are browser specific instructions:
For Firefox , go to Tools -> Add-ons, select Defender Pro QuickScan and press the Uninstall button.
For Chrome, click the Options button (usually located in the upper-right of the browser), click extensions and click the "Uninstall" option for QuickScan.
For Internet Explorer you can either use the browser's facility for managing extensions or delete all the files starting with qsax from C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files.
Q11: When I am using Windows Vista or later with UAC enabled, my Internet Explorer browser runs in Protected Mode and QuickScan can't scan the memory. What can I do to get it to it scan?
A11: To allow the memory scanning to run, you need to temporarily disable the Protected Mode. This means that you need to run Internet Explorer as Administrator.
To start IE as administrator you need to select the application from your start menu (note: NOT the desktop icon), right click it and select "Run as Administrator".
You can easily find it by typing "explorer" in the quick-search area after pressing the Start button.
